German fencer Bitta Heidemann said she was happy with the controversial decision that saw her beat South Korea’s Shin A-lam in their epee semifinal at the London Olympic Games.

Heidemann edged Shin 6-5 in extra time with a winning hit in the last second.
South Korea protested that the clock had stopped on one second remaining, as Shin fended off Heidemann’s attack three times. The Koreans said the German’s hit came after the final second should have been up.

“When there is one second left on the clock it could be one second or one second and 99 hundredths of a second,” Heidemann was quoted by AFP as saying.

She added that maybe South Koreans should “think about how the times are recorded, maybe there should be half seconds.”

The German said she has experienced this against herself before and that she was happy with the decision.

“The whole discussion was unnecessary,” she said.

1초가 흐르지 않아 심판 판정이 논란이 되었던 개인전 준결승에서 승리한 독일의 브리타 하이데만이 심판 판정에 만족한다고 말했다.

신아람은 30일영국 엑셀 런던 사우스 아레나에서 열린 개인전 준결승에서 하이데만에 5-6으로 졌다. 신아람은 5-5로 맞선 채 돌입한 연장전에서 종료 1초 전 상대에 찌르기를 허용해 아쉬운 패배를 당했다.

비긴 채 경기를 마쳤다면 경기 시작 전 얻은 어드밴티지로 결승에 오를 수 있었다.

하이데만은 “1초는 완전한 1초가 될 수도 있고 99분의 1초도 1초가 될 수 있다”라고 AFP통신을 통해 말했다.

“그들(한국)은 1초가 어떻게 기록되는지 생각해봐야 한다”라고 하며 자신도 그 같은 경험을 스스로 한 적이 있다고 말했다.

최종 판정에 만족하며 판정이 옳았는 지에 대한 “모든 토론은 불필요했다”라고 말하기도 했다.

마지막 1초를 남기고 신아람은 세 번의 공격을 막아냈으나 시간은 줄어들지 않았고, 결국 네 번째 공격에서 통한의 공격을 허용하고 말았다.

한국 코치진이 강력하게 항의했으나 국제펜싱연맹(FIE) 심판진은 30분 가까이 상의를 한 끝에 이를 받아들이지 않았다.
