The oldest bakery in Paris will close after 202 years in business because of rising rent and real estate prices, its current owner says.

Claude Esnault, 66, has operated the Au Richelieu Boulangerie bakery, in the rue de Richelieu in central Paris, since 1969 and hoped to sell the store to a younger baker, but after landlords doubled his rent, it is au revoir to the business that sells about 200 baguettes per day, Radio France Internationale reported Friday.

The rent on the facility is about to rise from 18,000 euros ($22,860) per year to 35,000 euros ($44,450) per year, he said.

The bakery, in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood near the Opera Garnier and the Louvre museum, is in an area with many sushi restaurants and shops that now cater to Japanese tourists, RFI said. (UPI)

프랑스 파리에서 가장 오래 된 빵집이 임대료와 부동상 가격 폭등의 이유로 202년 만에 문을 닫는다.

1969년부터 파리 중심가에서 ‘우 리슐리 블랑즈리’를 운영해온 클라우드 이스놀트(66)는 젊은 제빵사에게 이 베이커리를 넘겨주기를 희망했지만, 건물주가 임대료를 두 배로 인상했다고 말했다.
 
프랑스 라디오 국제 방송은 하루에 200개의 바게트가 팔리는 이 빵집에 이별을 고하게 됐다고 전했다.

이 가게의 임대료는 일년에 18,000유로(한화 약 2540만원)에서 35,000유로 (4950만원)로 두 배 가량 상승했다.

빵집이 위치한 곳은 파리에서도 급속히 고급화 되고 있는 지역으로 오페라 가르니에와 루브르 박물관의 가까이에 자리잡고 있어 관광객들이 많이 찾는 곳이다. 최근에는 이 지역에는 일본인 관광객들을 타겟으로 하는 스시 음식점과 상점들이 많이 들어섰다고 프랑스 라디오 국제 방송은 전했다.
