The Shin-Wolsong nuclear power plant No. 2 will start operations in July as Samsung C&T has nearly finished its construction through cutting-edge technology and safety precautions.

The company said that it oversaw the construction of the plant as well as its nuclear steam supply system. Officials added that the testing of the plant in April ended successfully.

The new Shin-Wolsong plant has an improved light-water reactor that can produce 1 million kilowatt of electricity per hour. It also has enhanced safety and construction features.

With the completion of the Shin-Wolsong plant No. 2, Samsung C&T is trying to export Korean nuclear plants overseas.

Currently, it is participating in building the Barakah nuclear power plant in UAE, to construct a total of four plants with the capacity to produce 1,400 megawatts of power.

Through its experience of constructing the Shin-Wolsong No. 2 power plant, it is able to apply new nuclear technology in the UAE plants, and effectively become the first export of a Korean-style nuclear plant (APR1400) overseas.

Samsung C&T is also in the process of bidding ― in a consortium with Doosan Heavy Industries, Korea Electric Power Corporation and others ― for the construction of Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant Unit 4, a plant with capacity of 1,400 megawatts ordered by Finnish nuclear power generation company Tesollisuuden Voima.

The company completed 21 projects last year for producing 22,986 megawatts of electricity in total, and is currently working on 12 projects for producing 21,848 megawatts, working in countries such as South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and others. It is especially showing its expertise in financing operators and development projects.

The company is also seeking to establish a global reputation through its expertise and skill in the power generation sector as well as a solid financial structure and global network, company officials said.
