Korea’s first 3-D animation movie “Bolts & Blip” will be released on DVD in Canada later this year, its producer Redrover said.

The company signed a copyright deal with Canadian home entertainment group Nelvana last week at MIPTV 2011, the world’s largest entertainment content market in Cannes, France.

Set on the moon in 2080, the comedy follows the adventures of two misfit robots, Bolts and Blip.

It was first made as a television series in a joint project between Redrover and Canada’s Toonbox Entertainment in 2007. The Korean firm spent around 15 billion won ($13.7 million) on production.

The show has been aired in about 100 countries including France, Spain, Australia and Indonesia, Redrover said.

“The deal with Nelvana recognizes our work’s quality and commercial viability,” said Kim Eun-san, Redrover’s marketing chief.

“It promotes Korea’s animation as it is going to be introduced in the North American market after broadcast in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.”
