Oct. 23, 2024 - 07:13 By ABC NEWS (Australia)

A majestic Sydney harbour set the scene for a glittering royal visit. As thousands flocked to the opera house, to try to catch a moment with the king and queen. “It's lovely to meet you!” “You haven't been standing here all day I hope!” “Long live the King!” Some had been brushing up on royal protocol “Very excited, I’ve been practicing my curtsies” While others came dressed for the occasion “We were just wanting to be a second king I think really! Haha “ I want to give support to the monarchy. Even if we don't see Charles, it's a wonderful time to be here There were plenty of flags in the crowd and in the skies above. Young performers had a special snap with the royals. Before they set sail on the harbour, for an official fleet review - inspecting five ships from the royal Australian navy. Even with a scaled back schedule due to the king's health issues. The royals have managed to cram plenty into the final day of their tour. But it's their appearance here at the opera house that has generated the most excitement. He really wanted to have a nice chat, and I really enjoyed it. What was it like meeting the king? It was amazing it's great to be here and be part of history because I guess for him it’s just meeting a lot of people but for us it's something we'll be telling our grandkids about. Like oh my god, I met the king. A brush with royalty but an impression that will last a lifetime.
