The Transport Ministry will partially allow passengers to carry beverages when they board an airplane on international routes, official said Tuesday.

According to its announcement published in the government bulletin, travelers will be permitted to bring cold, lidded beverages purchased at duty-free zones and from areas beyond security check-ups. Hot beverages, such as coffee and tea, are not included in the list.

Previously, passengers were only allowed to take liquid items such as cosmetics or liquors smaller than 100 milliliters as part of security measures. Korean international airports have been banning passengers from taking beverages onboard, since a liquefied bomb was found at U.K airport in 2006.

The recent announcement was made to offer travel convenience to passengers, the ministry officials said, adding that beverages purchased at the security-clear zone are proven to be safe.
