'北억류' 우리국민 주원문씨 오늘 오후 돌아온다

북한이 억류 중인 한국 국적 미국 대학생 주원 문(21)씨를 5일 오후 남측에 송환하겠다고 밝혀왔다.

통일부 당국자는 "북측이 북한적십자 중앙위원회 명의 통지문을 통해 지난 4월 22일 이후 북측 지역에 억류돼 있던 주씨를 오늘(5일) 오후 5시 30분에 우리측으로 돌려보내겠다고 통보해 왔다"고 밝혔다.

그는 "우리측은 북측 제의대로 오후 5시 30분에 판문점을 통해 주씨를 받아들이 겠다는 의사를 북측에 통보했다"고 덧붙였다.

이 당국자는 "정부는 북한이 이제라도 우리 국민 주씨를 송환하겠다고 결정한 것을 다행스럽게 생각하며, 아울러 아직까지 북측이 억류중인 우리 국민 김정욱, 김 국기, 최춘길씨도 조속히 석방해 가족의 품으로 돌려보내기를 촉구한다"고 말했다. (연합)

N. Korea to repatriate S. Korean held up in North in afternoon

North Korea said Monday it will repatriate a 21-year-old South Korean student who has been detained in the communist country since April, according to the Unification Ministry.

The repatriation of Joo Won-moon, a New York University student caught while allegedly crossing into the communist country, will take place at 5:30 p.m., a ministry official said, citing a North Korean letter sent to the ministry.

In response, Seoul told Pyongyang that it will accept Joo through the truce village of Panmunjom, the official said.

"It's a relief that North Korea has decided to repatriate our national, Joo," the official noted, adding that the North should also send back three other South Koreans now held up in the country. (Yonhap)
