Seoul subway resumes operation after derailment, no casualty
Subway line no. 4 has resumed operation after one of its trains derailed, the state-run railway operator said Thursday. No deaths or injuries have been reported.
The train jumped off the tracks near Samgakji Station in central Seoul at 5:12 a.m., according to the Korea Railroad Corporation. Officials said the train carried no passengers as it was returning to a railroad yard in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.
KORAIL finished cleaning the scene around 10:23 a.m.
“We had to hoist the derailed train up on the tracks, but it took longer than expected because the accident occurred in a curved section,” an official from KORAIL said. The Transportation Ministry, Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board will conducted an investigation to find the cause of the accident.
Operations of the no. 4 line were mostly suspended or delayed due to the accident.
It was the fourth subway-related accident that has occurred since Sunday. On Tuesday, an unidentified man was hit by a subway train and killed, and another train abruptly stopped because of a malfunction on Wednesday morning.
