미국 시인 '김연아를 위하여' 헌정시 WSJ 게재

미국 일간지 월스트리트저널(WSJ)이 2014 소치동계올림픽 피겨 여자싱글 은메달리스트 김연아에게 바치는 헌정시를 게재했다.

올림픽 기간 중 대회 관련 시를 해당 매체에 기고해온 미국 시인 쾀 도우스는 24일(한국시간) 폐막식에 맞춰 자작시 ‘폐막식, 김연아, 격에 맞지 않은 은메달’(Closing ceremony, Yuna Kim, Unceremonious Silver)을 공개했다.

헌정시는 프롤로그와 에필로그, 네 개의 연으로 구성됐는데, 도우스는 특별히 4연에 ‘김연아를 위하여’라는 부제를 달았다.

도우스는 4연에서 “그녀가 부드럽게 말했을 때/모든 것이 끝나 행복하다고/금메달을 잃고/속임수를 당했다고 주변이 소란스러워도/나는 그녀를 믿었다/진정으로 믿었다/그녀의 안도감을/모든 무게가 사라진 후 느낀 그녀의 기분을/더 이상 돌을 짊어지지 않은 여왕의 기분을”이라며 판정 시비 속에서도 의연하게 행동한 김연아를 위로했다.

4연은 “스케이트를 벗고/다시 보통의 사람이 되어, 땅으로 내려왔다 /그리고 평범하게 느릿느릿 움직이며/ 그렇게 무대 뒤편으로 떠나갔다”로 마무리됐다. (헤럴드생생뉴스)

Olympic Poetry for Kim Yu-na

Kwame Dawes' Olympic Poetry on Korea's figure skating queen Kim Yu-na, which was published in the Wall Street Journal, is drawing attention among Korean netizens.

In the poetry titled "Closing Ceremony, Yuna Kim, Unceremonious Silver, the writer said "And when she said softly, that she was happy now that it was over, this when she had lost the gold, and the bedlam around her told her she was cheated."

"I believed her, believed her belief, her sense that the weight of it all was now gone, that the queen unburdened of the stone around her to tutor her body through pain and to carry the flame of envy, anger, awe and fear inside her, stoking it for years and years as a flame that this was over now, and all she felt was relief, gladness, and peace- when she said, I am happy, it is over, I believed her. And she, skateless, mortal, grounded, she walked, stuttering and ordinary, away from the arena."
