A British institution on higher education has selected the Korean city of Ulsan to play host to a summit of Asian universities in March next year, the city government said Monday.

The Ulsan regional government in Korea's southeastern area said THE Asia Universities Summit to be organized by Times Higher Education will take place from March 14-16 at the University of Ulsan.

The conference will bring together heads of leading universities worldwide, as well as Asian universities, government officials and business leaders, who will discuss ways to nurture global leaders, as well as the roles of higher education and universities in the development of future industries.

Ulsan and Japan's Tokyo competed to host the event, but an on-site evaluation revealed that Ulsan was the most optimum model of industry-university cooperation, the Korean city said.

The city government also hopes the event will provide an opportunity to show its potential role as an economic hub in the Northeast Asian region.

During this year's summit in Hong Kong from June 19-21, over 260 delegates from over 25 countries came together to discuss, network and discover how Asia's universities are changing the global university landscape. (Yonhap)
