Victoria Beckham launches dress line for Asians in Korea

March 21, 2016 - 16:29 By KH디지털2

Fashion designer Victoria Beckham, better known as a former Spice Girls member and wife of retired footballer David Beckham, has unveiled a new clothing line initially in Korea exclusively designed for Asian customers, which she said has growth potential for luxury brands, in a press meeting held in Seoul, Monday.

The Victoria Victoria Beckham line, composed of eight dresses, will go on sale in South Korea at the Munich-based mytheresa.com online shop from Monday afternoon and then be available for other Asian markets from Tuesday, the online retailer said in a statement.

"Asia is the fastest-growing market for luxury brands. Korea is a very avant-garde and fashion-oriented market. I was amazed by the way people were dressed at the (Incheon International) airport yesterday," Victoria Beckham said in the press conference.

"I am here to connect with my customers and to get to know my customers."

She came to Seoul Sunday for the promotional event after her Victoria Beckham fashion brand opened a brick and mortar shop in Hong Kong last week, the first offline shop in Asia and the second globally after the London outlet that opened in 2014, the statement said.

Three other offline shops are in Paris, the United Arab Emirates and Abu Dhabi.

"We don't have any immediate plan to open an offline shop in Korea," mytheresa.com said.

Michael Kliger, president of mytheresa.com, also placed his bets on Korea in terms of luxury-fashion demands, calling Seoul "the city that never sleeps, shopping luxury clothes and bags 24 hours a day and 7 days a week."

As Korea is the leader in Internet and smartphone technology, this is the base for mytheresa.com to operate. In previous years, Korea has been one of the fastest-growing markets for luxury fashion items with strong sales records, Kliger told Yonhap News Agency after the conference.

However, he refused to provide the online shop's past sales figures in Korea. (Yonhap)
