Rival parties' approval ratings mixed

March 18, 2016 - 16:10 By KH디지털2

The ruling party's approval rating has edged up on the back of increased support in its home turf despite an ongoing factional feud, a poll showed Friday.

The poll released by polling agency Gallup Korea showed 41 percent of people approved last week of the job that the ruling Saenuri Party is doing, up 2 percentage points from a week earlier.

The poll attributed the result to the increased approval rating at the so-called TK region comprising the central city of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province.

The party has been split between those who are loyal to President Park Geun-hye and their opponents over how to select candidates for the April 13 parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, the poll put the main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea's approval rating at 20 percent, down 3 percentage points.

The splinter opposition People's Party received 8 percent support, according to the poll.

The telephone survey was conducted on 1,002 adults between Tuesday and Thursday and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. (Yonhap)
