Volvo Trucks aims to double its annual sales in Korea to 4,000 units by 2020, Volvo Group CEO Martin Lundstedt said in Seoul on Thursday.

“The year 2015 was very successful for Volvo Trucks Korea. The Korean unit has contributed to the Volvo Group’s success as well,” the chief of the Swedish automaker said in a press conference.

“Our 2020 vision is to sell more than 4,000 commercial vehicles (in Korea),” he added.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Volvo Trucks Korea, Lundstedt chose the nation as the first destination of his Asian trip which also includes China and Japan.

Korea was the fifth overseas market for Volvo Trucks in 2015 with annual sales of about 2,000 units. The company sold more than 200,000 cars worldwide last year.

Lundstedt said Volvo will keep investing in the commercial vehicle network in Korea with improved customer services.

“The business know-how collected in Korea will be applied in other countries. We’ll continue to invest in innovation and developing better products,” Lundstedt stressed.

The global truck maker has made Asian premiers for some of its new products in Korea in recent years, from the heavy-duty truck lineups FH16, FH, FM, and FMX in 2014 to the medium-sized lineup FL in 2015.
