Harvard student accused of bomb hoax to avoid exams
The culprit behind the bomb threat at Harvard University is reportedly a Korean student who attempted to get out of a final exam. The student is due to appear in court in Boston on Wednesday, according to the district attorney’s office.
The 20-year-old student, known as Kim, could face up to five years in prison, three years supervised release and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
Kim allegedly sent an anonymous e-mail titled “bombs placed around campus” to the Harvard University police, college officials and the school newspaper half an hour before the exam was due to start. The e-mail said that shrapnel bombs had been placed in four buildings on campus.
The police called the FBI and the four buildings were immediately evacuated, leading to the cancellation of a series of exams.
The FBI affidavit said Kim had confessed to officers that he came up with the hoax to avoid a final exam scheduled that morning.
