Bucheon University students majoring in cartoon and 2-D visual graphics showcased their works at Bucheon International Comics Festival in Gyeonggi Province, from Aug. 14 to 18.

The annual event is Korea’s only comics festival that features cartoonists from home and abroad.

Bucheon University’s cartoon and 2-D visual graphics program is known for its 2010 animation “Robot Zzibba,” based on local cartoonist Shin Moon-su’s manhwa of the same title, which was broadcast on KBS2 as a 26-episode series. The animation was also broadcast on Disney Channel Asia in 2012.

The school also received 100 million won ($89,000) in funding from Korea Creative Contents Agency last year to create animated TV show “Fantastic Baby Doll,” featuring original characters from different national and cultural backgrounds.

The animation was a collaborative project between the school’s students and local animation house Gogumi with support from the Korea Manhwa Contents Agency. According to the school, “Fantastic Baby Doll” is scheduled to broadcast in 2014 on local cable channel Daewon Broadcasting.
