Korea loses World Cup qualifier against Iran

Oct. 18, 2012 - 15:27 By 노지웅

South Korea played its final World Cup qualifier of the year on Oct. 16, losing 1-0 against Iran.

At the Azadi Stadium in Iran, the two nations started off the game slow, with Iran playing the second half of the game a man down. Captain Javad Nekounam of the Iranian national team scored the winning goal in the 76th minute, taking advantage of a loose ball near the penalty area.

The latest win by Iran proved to be a huge victory, giving the nation enough points to share the lead with Korea in Group A. Korea remains in the lead, however, thanks to the goal difference advantage.

Iran is set to host Uzbekistan on Nov. 14 for their next qualifying contest.
