The BBC is faced with viewer backlash over its live broadcast of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee River Pageant on Sunday.
The documentary celebrating the 60-year monarchy of Queen Elizabeth II was criticized as “tedious” and “lamentable,” with viewers complaining it lacked key historical information that they had anticipated.
“Beeb keep cutting to useless ‘features’ instead of showing us what’s happening,” complained Paul Waugh, editor of PoliticsHome.
A string of errors were made in the commentary by the presenters, where basic facts were jumbled up. In one instance BBC’s chief commentator Paul Dickenson called the Duchess of Cornwall “Princess Royal” while another presenter addressed a veteran named John as “Jim.”
Twice, the naval warship HMS Belfast was reported to weigh 91,000 tons, while its actual weight was 11,500 tons.
Comedian, writer and actor Stephen Fry said that the commentary was “deeply embarrassing,” according to the Daily Mail.
Technical blunders proved to be another problem, with the sound dropping out during musical performances.

생중계 방송 중에는 진행자들의 실수가 속출했다.
BBC 방송 아나운서 폴 디킨슨은 방송 도중 콘월 공작 부인을 ‘프린세스 로열’이라고 말하는가 하면, 또 따른 해설자는 존이라는 이름을 가진 참전 용사와의 인터뷰에서 자신있게 ‘짐’이라고 부르는 실수를 범했다.
군함 HMS 벨파스트호를 소개하면서 무게가 91,000톤이라고 잘못 전달한 경우도 두 번이나 있었다. 벨파스트호의 실무게는 11,500톤이다.
방송 중 기술적 문제로 음악 공연 도중에 소리가 나지 않는 상황도 버려졌다.
