LG eyes bigger share in overseas air conditioning market

LG Electronics featured its new set of air conditioners at a three-day international expo in Chicago as it is eying a bigger market share overseas.

At its booth at the International Air-conditioning, Heating and Refrigerating Exposition, it showcased a half-dozen air conditioners built for home and commercial use, and emphasized their environmentally friendly, highly efficient functions.

LG’s participation comes as the company plans to raise its share in the U.S. commercial air conditioner market by 50 percent this year compared to 2011. The firm also said it aims for a more than 10 percent increase in sales in 2012.

“We have proved the differentiation points of LG’s air conditioners through this event, and we expect to be positioned as the leading brand in the North American market with our competitive technology,” said Nho Hwan-yong, president of the air conditioning and energy solution unit at LG Electronics.

As one of its core products displayed at the event, the “Multi V3” model, which can be installed in large buildings, cuts energy use by 14 percent compared to other commercial air conditioners, according to LG officials.

The product also received “Carbon Free” authorization from the Carbon Fund, the first of its kind, and got the best level of recognition for energy efficiency from the Air-conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute.

Last year, LG grew by more than 10 percent in global terms and the company aims to reach a double-digit growth rate in total sales this year despite the sluggish economy in some advanced nations, such as European countries.
