Veteran stage actress Yoon Seok-hwa is returning to the big screen after 24 years for director Kim Tae-gyun’s debut film.
According to Pan Cinema, the production house of the upcoming movie, it only took a day for Yoon to decide to take the role. The actress was instantly moved by the script, the company said.
Based on director Kim’s personal story, the film, titled “Spring Snow,” is about a family coming together after losing one of its members. Yoon will be playing Soon-ok, the mother of the family. Other roles have yet to be cast.
The 55-year-old actress has been working as both performing artist and play director since her theater debut in 1975. Her best known works include the famous musical “The Last Empress,” and “Agnes of God.”

Yoon created controversy in 2007, as she confirmed rumors that she falsely claimed she had attended a prestigious women’s college.
Meanwhile, the debuting director has been working closely with auteur Kwak Gyeong-taek ― whose best works include “Friend” (2001) and “Typhoon” (2005) ― as his assistant.
“Spring Snow” is scheduled to be released by early next year.
