Daejeon prosecutor found dead in apparent suicide

A 34-year-old prosecutor in Daejeon, some 150 kilometers south of Seoul, was found dead at his home in an apparent suicide on Wednesday, police said.

The police investigating the case said that the prosecutor, surnamed Huh, strangled himself to death using a pair of rubber gloves in his kitchen.

“When he did not come to the office without any notice, I visited his official residence and found him dead in the kitchen floor,” one of Huh’s colleagues told the police. He has worked for the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office since January.

A short handwritten suicide note that said “sorry,” was found near the body.

“A handwriting analyst confirmed that the note was written by Huh himself,” officials told the Yonhap News. “CCTV footage also shows that no one entered or exited the building at the time.”

“We cannot find any evidence of murder thus we are assuming that Huh committed suicide.

"However, we will request an autopsy by the National Scientific, Criminal and Investigation Laboratory for more detailed cause of death,” the official added.

7일 오전 9시45분께 대전 중구 선화동의 한 아 파트에서 허모(34)씨가 숨진 채 발견됐다.

경찰은 허씨가 주방에서 고무장갑에 목이 졸린 채 숨져 있었다고 밝혔다.

조사결과 허씨는 대전지방검찰청 소속 검사인 것으로 밝혀졌다.

허씨의 동료는 경찰에서 "전날 오후 10시30분쯤 퇴근한 허씨가 오늘 오전까지 출근하지 않은 채 아무런 연락이 없었다"며 "이상한 생각이 들어 관사에 가보니 허 씨가 주방에 쓰러져 있어 119에 신고했다"고 말했다.

허씨 주위에서 '죄송합니다'라고 짧게 쓰인 유서가 발견됐다.

경찰의 한 관계자는 "유서의 필적 감정 결과 허씨 자필로 확인됐다"면서 "아파 트 현관에 설치돼 있는 CC(폐쇄회로)TV 분석 결과 다른 사람이 들어오거나 나간 정 황도 없었다"고 밝혔다.

이어 "타살 혐의점이 없는 현장의 상황으로 미뤄 자살로 추정된다"며 "자세한 사인을 밝히기 위해 국립과학수사연구소에 부검을 의뢰할 예정"이라고 말했다.
