Police look into deaths of Park Geun-hye's two relatives

Two relatives of Park Geun-hye, a powerful presidential aspirant from the ruling Grand National Party (GNP), were found dead in what was presumed to be an internal family fight, police said Wednesday.

A paternal nephew of Park, who is a daughter of late former president Park Chung-hee, was found by a neighbor lying dead in a parking lot near Mount Bukhan in northern Seoul early Tuesday morning, Gangbuk Police Station said. The 50-year-old man was bleeding from several stab wounds to his face, the police said.

Only a few kilometers from the scene, police found the body of a cousin of Park's dead nephew. The 52-year old man seems to have committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree, the police said.

After discovering a weapon near the suicide site, police are investigating a possible link between the two deaths.

Police also said they found through the two men's cellphone records that they had been drinking together the previous night and arrived near the mountain in a car driven by a paid driver.

"We are looking into a possible relation between the two simultaneous deaths," the police said, adding one is likely a suicide and the other a possible murder. Autopsies will be conducted early Wednesday, the police said.

"The two were said to have some conflicts due to financial matters. But it seems not to be related to inheritance," a close aide of the lawmaker said, declining to be named. (Yonhap News)

박근혜 전 한나라당 대표의 5촌 조카가 북한산 인근에서 흉기에 찔려 숨진 채로 발견돼 경찰이 수사에 나섰다.

7일 서울 강북경찰서에 따르면 6일 오전 5시30분께 서울 강북구 우이동 북한산 탐방안내센터 인근 주차장에서 박모(50)씨가 흉기로 얼굴 등을 수차례 찔린 채 숨져 있는 것을 인근 주민이 발견, 신고했다.

이날 오전 9시20분께에는 피살 현장에서 3km 가량 떨어진 북한산 용암문 인근 등산로에서 박 전 대표의 또다른 5촌 조카인 박모(52)씨가 나무에 목을 매 숨진 채로 발견됐다.

피살된 박씨의 차량 옆에서는 둔기가, 현장에서 100여m 떨어진 개울가에서는 흉 기가 발견됐고 자살한 박씨의 것으로 보이는 가방 속에서도 흉기가 나왔다고 경찰은 전했다.

경찰은 국립과학수사연구원에 유류품 분석 감정을 의뢰하는 등 두 사건 간의 연 관성에 대해 수사하는 한편 제3자가 사건에 개입했을 가능성도 배제하지 않고 있다.

또 두 사람이 5일 저녁 늦게까지 술을 마시고 대리 기사를 불러 6일 오전 1~2 시께 강북구 4.19기념탑 인근까지 이동한 뒤 기사를 내려 줬다는 진술을 확보하고 이후 행적을 추적하고 있다.

경찰 관계자는 "지인들과의 통화내역 분석과 (피살된) 박씨의 차적 조회 등을 통해 두 사람이 함께 술을 마셨다는 사실을 파악하고 자살한 박씨를 찾던 중 변사 신고가 들어왔다"고 말했다.

박 전 대표 측의 한 관계자는 "둘 사이에 돈 문제로 다툼이 좀 있었다고 들었다. 유산 문제는 아닌 것으로 보인다"라며 "(피살된) 박씨는 완력도 센데다 평소 착실 한 사람인데 숨졌다는게 믿기지 않는다"고 말했다.

피살된 박씨는 지난해 박정희 전 대통령의 차녀 박근령씨의 남편인 신동욱 전 백석문화대 교수로부터 `나를 중국으로 납치해 살해하려고 했고 중국에서 마약을 했 다는 소문을 퍼뜨렸다'는 이유로 피소되기도 했다. 신씨는 무고 혐의로 최근 구속기 소됐다.

경찰은 7일 중 피살된 박씨에 대해 부검을 진행하는 한편 두 사람의 지인 등을 불러 자세한 사건 경위를 조사할 계획이다. (연합뉴스)
