LG Electronics has received certification from the U.S. for producing carbon-free goods. making headway in the field of environmentally friendly technology, said the Seoul-based company on Tuesday.

The certification was from Carbon Fund, one of the leading institutes in the U.S. that provides certification for carbon-free products. LG Electronics is the first Korean company to receive the credential from the fund.

LG received the certification on six products including refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, monitors and LED lights.

“Environmental regulations are no longer an obligation, but it’s more of a business opportunity,” said LG Electronics’ chief technology officer Ahn Seung-kwon. “The certification from the world’s largest market will help us attain environmental leadership for creating new business opportunities.”

The company is now planning to further expand in developing carbon-free products, to areas such as commercially-used air conditioners, mobile phones and vacuum cleaners.

Companies have become increasingly conscious of fostering environmentally friendly products in the face of mounting concerns of global warming.

LG Electronics, in particular, has been stepping up efforts to cut down on reliance on carbon gas in the U.S., which is cited as one of the global leaders in carbon gas regulations.

The electronics maker’s TROMM washing machine was the first Korean product to receive certification for producing less carbon gas. LG Electronics is the country’s biggest holder of such certification for appliances and components.
