A migrant worker from Nepal killed himself last Sunday, referring to apparent unfair treatment at work.
According to the Daegu branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, a worker whose name has not been released hanged himself at his colleague’s home.
After arriving in Korea from Nepal with an employment visa nine months ago, he had been working at Seongso Industrial Complex until recently.
He said via a suicide note that the employer treated him like a “mental patient,” eventually taking away his job. He also requested that the Korean government reveal “the truth.”
An official from the union told reports “According to other Nepalese colleagues, he was depressed after being fired unreasonably.”
Meanwhile, the employer told police that he handed in his resignation form by of his own accord.
The union is to contact the man’s family in Nepal and open an investigation into the case.

네팔 이주노동자 ‘부당 해고’ 주장 자살
(대구=연합뉴스) 한국에 온지 9개월된 외국인 노동자가 스스로 목숨을 끊어 노동계가 진상조사를 하고 있다.
13일 민주노총 대구지역본부에 따르면 지난 12일 성서공단의 한 업체에서 일한 네팔출신 이주노동자 G(41)씨가 동료의 집에서 목을 매 숨졌다.
G씨는 고용허가제로 9개월여 전에 입국해 성서공단의 한 업체에서 일해오다 최근 해고된 뒤 구직활동을 하고 있었던 것으로 전해졌다.
그는 유서에서 회사측이 자신을 정신질환자 취급을 해 해고를 했다고 주장했으며 한국정부가 진실을 밝혀달라고 한 것으로 알려졌다.
대구 민노총 관계자는 “숨진 G씨와 같은 네팔 출신 이주노동자들을 만나 본 결과 ‘G씨가 부당해고를 당했다며 억울해 했다’고 말했다”고 밝혔다.
대구 민노총 등은 숨진 G씨의 본국 가족들에게 연락을 하는 한편 G씨를 알고 지냈던 네팔인 동료 등을 상대로 ‘사측의 부당해고 여부’ 등에 대한 조사를 벌일 방침이다.
