3-D LCD panel sales surge in first quarter

June 6, 2011 - 18:56 By 최희석
Sales of locally made three-dimensional liquid crystal displays surged 104 percent in the first quarter compared to the last three months of 2010, mainly fueled by a rise in global demand, an industry report showed Monday.

According to the report by market research firm DisplaySearch, Korean-made 3-D LCD shipments reached 1.90 million units in the three-month period. It said the size of the market for 3-D screens also rose from 1.6 percent of all LCDs sold worldwide to 3.9 percent.

It said sales of 3-D displays made by Samsung Electronics surpassed the 1 million mark, while those made by LG Electronics Inc. reached 880,000 units from January through March.

The market research report, however, said that despite gains in overall sales, prices of 3-D screens have remained unchanged compared to the past.

“Sales were fueled by demand from markets such as China, but shipments to western Europe and North America have not picked up pace,” DisplaySearch said.
