Toyota president to visit S. Korea to shore up morale

May 29, 2011 - 20:36 By 천성우

The chief of Toyota Motor Corp., the world's biggest carmaker, is likely to visit South Korea later this week to shore up support here for the brand, industry sources said Sunday.

Akio Toyoda will arrive here around Saturday for his first South Korean trip since becoming president of the company in 2009, the sources said, adding he will meet with Toyota dealers at their shop in Seoul among others.

Japanese automakers have been struggling against challenges such as the surging yen and the March 11 earthquake. The visit by the Toyota chief underscores the company's determination to continue to expand a market share in the neighboring country, the sources said.
