Some 200 Japanese citizens from Hiroshima will set up a citizen visit group to watch the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 that will run from Aug. 27 through Sept. 4. Daegu Mayor Kim Beom-il, who has recently returned from his trip to Hiroshim said, “Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui gladly promised to set up a citizen visit group in the hope of success for the world event that will be held in Hiroshima’s twined city.”

Doh Yee-hwan, the President of Daegu City Assembly, attended a flower festival and an event to celebrate Daegu Day in Hiroshima in early May. Daegu and Hiroshima set up a sisterhood relationship on May 2, 1997.

In time for the Daegu Colorful Pre-Championships Meeting, Hiroshima has held Daegu’s Day events every year, and Daegu has celebrated Hiroshima’s Day when the annual Hiroshima Flower Festival is held in Hiroshima. In the Japanese city, Mayor Kim appeared, on May 3, in the TV program “Let’s Go to Daegu” to promote the world championships.
