South Korea's Hanjin Shipping container carrier with 14 South Koreans aboard lost contact with its company Thursday (Korean time) as it was sailing in the pirate-infested waters off Somalia, an official said.

The 75,000-ton container ship had departed from Spain for Singapore, the foreign ministry official said. 

"The ship made its last communications at around 5 a.m.," the official said, refusing to confirm media reports that the ship has been hijacked.

한진해운 컨테이너선 해적에 피랍

현재 연락두절..한국선원 14명, 인니 선원 6명 탑승

한진해운 소속 컨테이너선 한 척이 소말리아 해적에 피랍된 것으로 알려졌다.

한진해운 관계자는 "오늘 오전 5시15분께 컨테이너선 한진텐진호가 인도양의 예 멘의 섬인 스코트라 동쪽 250마일 지점에서 해적으로부터 공격받은 것으로 추정된다 "며 "현재 피랍여부를 확인하고 있다"고 말했다.

이 해역은 해적 출몰이 잦은 아덴만 근처인 것으로 전해졌다.  

정부 관계자도 "컨테이너 운반선이 해적에 납치됐다는 첩보가 입수됐다"며  "지 금 선박과 연락이 두절된 상태여서 사실 여부를 확인 중"이라고 전했다.

6천500TEU급 한진텐진호는 유럽에서 아시아로 운항 중이었으며, 한국인 선원 14 명과 인도네시아 선원 6명이 탑승하고 있다.
