A heavy metal band front man is suing over the alleged tainted tuna he ate at a Louisiana sushi restaurant.
Chris Fronzak, 22, of Portland, Ore., and members of his band Attila were in Metairie April 10, to play a show and decided to eat lunch at a sushi restaurant, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported.
"Everything tasted great," Fronzak said Friday. "The amount of sushi I got was insane. Little did I know, it gave me salmonella."
Fronzak said within 36 hours he was feeling ill, with extreme stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever and muscle aches.
Fronzak said he was sick for six days before seeking treatment at an emergency room in Kansas City, Mo.
Later, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed Fronzak was one of 258 people infected nationwide with Salmonella Bareilly between Jan. 28 and April 20.
The outbreak has been linked by the CDC to tainted tuna meat distributed by Moon Marine USA Corp., a California-based company named as a defendant in the civil lawsuit attorneys representing Fronzak filed Thursday.
Moon Marine USA recalled 58,828 pounds of a raw yellow fin tuna product that had been distributed to restaurants and grocery stores nationwide.
Fronzak said he is feeling better now, but has racked up more than $10,000 in medical bills from the incident. (UPI)
