A new $25 million technology center funded by Korea will be completed by July 30.
The second and final phase of the Technology Development Center financed by the Korean government is on schedule to be completed in June.
Kenyan Ambassador to Korea Ngovi Kitau said that the facility being paid for under Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund would benefit both his country’s economy and that of the surrounding region.
“This project is very important to Kenya because under Kenya’s Vision 2030, and also from Africa’s point of view as articulated during the High Level Forum for Aid Effectiveness held in Busan last December, capacity development is the first priority for Kenya and the rest of Africa,” Kitau said.
“This project will benefit not only all the sectors of Kenyan economy but the entire Eastern and Central Africa.”
The center is to run five training programs ― mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, business and supplies management, information technology and automotive engineering.
The project is now in the final phase including the construction of a library, female hostels, space for sports facilities, science laboratories and a dispensary.
The center is situated 30 kilometers from Nairobi and has 51 teaching staff, with 37 traveling to Korea last year for specialized training on how to use the new equipment.
