South Korean football forward Park Chu-young has joined Spain's top-division club Celta Vigo, the club said in its Web site seen in Seoul Saturday.

Celta Vigo said Park will play for the club on a loan from his current club, Arsenal in the English Premier League, without providing further details, including his salary.

According to British and Spanish media, Celta Vigo is believed to have spent about 1 million euros (US$1.25 million) to lease the 27-year-old for one year.

Park said on the Web site that he will make efforts to acclimate himself to the club and do his best to help upgrade its stature.

In an interview with La Voz de Galicia, a Spanish daily newspaper on Friday, Park voiced his hope to become a key striker in the Spanish club, saying he is aiming to score 15 goals this season.

Park made his professional debut with FC Seoul in South Korea's K-League in 2005, and won the Rookie of the Year honor by netting

18 goals in 30 games.

He moved to AS Monaco in the top French league and played three seasons there, before Monaco was relegated to the second division in 2011. (Yonhap News)

'셀타 비고' 입단 박주영, 스페인 리그로 간 이유는?

스페인 프로축구 프리메라리가의 셀타 비고에 새롭게 둥지를 튼 박주영(27)이 "포기하지 않겠다"는 다부진 각오를 다졌다.

그는 "스페인 축구는 잉글랜드 축구보다 기술적으로 우위에 있고 내 스타일에 잘 맞을 것으로 믿는다"며 "셀타 비고에서 뛰는 것은 나에게 큰 기회가 될 것"이라 고 덧붙였다.

이날 등번호 18번을 받은 박주영은 경기장에서 수백 명의 팬들에게 둘러싸여 '깜짝' 사인회를 펼치기도 했다.

한편 박주영은 지역 신문인 '라 보스 데 갈라시아'와의 인터뷰에서 "이번 시즌 목표는 15골"이라며 "최전방 공격수로 뛰고 싶다"고 밝혔다.

이 신문은 박주영에 대해 "셀타 비고가 이번 시즌 영입한 여섯 번째 선수"라며 "이날 오전 메디컬테스트를 받은 뒤 홈구장인 발라이도스 스타디움에서 입단식을 가졌다"고 전했다.

또 "박주영은 특출한 재능을 가진 선수"라며 "한국 축구대표팀의 주장을 지낸 박주영의 영입으로 셀타 비고의 공격력은 더욱 강해지게 됐다"고 호평했다.
