North Korean football player Jong Tae-se will join a first-division South Korean club next week, an official here said Thursday.

Jong, 28, will leave 1. FC Koln in the second division German competition to play for Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the K-League, and will be introduced as the team's newest member next week, a Suwon official said.

"We've finalized talks with Koln over the transfer fee for Jong Tae-se," the official said. "He will arrive in South Korea as early as next Monday for medical tests."

Sources said Suwon agreed to pay Koln 300,000 euros ($395,850) as a transfer fee, and Jong's salary is reportedly around 400 million won ($376,000).

Jong first expressed his interest in the K-League in November last year. Officials of Suwon and another K-League club, Ulsan Hyundai Tigers, said Jong's agent at the time contacted them with an eye on the 2013 season.

Suwon was close to acquiring Jong last month at around 200,000 euros for the transfer fee, but then Daejeon Citizen, a third K-League team, stepped up and offered to pay more money to bring the North Korean star on board.

Jong himself insisted he was only interested in playing for Suwon, a perennial contender and one of the most popular clubs in the K-League, and Suwon upped the transfer fee to 300,000 euros to finalize the move.

Jong will become the fourth North Korean to play in the K-League. The last one was midfielder An Yong-hak, Jong's former teammate on the North Korean national squad, who played for two different clubs from 2006 to 2009.

Jong, born in Japan to a South Korean father and a North Korean mother, attended pro-North Korean schools there and has said in interviews that he considers himself North Korean.

The forward made his professional debut with Kawasaki Frontale in Japan's J-League in 2006. He represented North Korea at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the country's first appearance at the quadrennial event in 44 years. Later in 2010, Jong moved to VfL Bochum in Germany's second division.

He joined Koln in January last year but went scoreless in five games as the club was relegated to the second division. In the current season, Jong did not score in five games while struggling to get playing time.

He has been more prolific for North Korea in international play, having scored 15 goals in 28 games. (Yonhap News)

북한 축구대표팀의 공격수인 '인민 루니' 정대세(28•쾰른)가 프로축구 K리그 수원 삼성의 유니폼을 입는다.

수원 관계자는 2일 연합뉴스와의 전화통화에서 "독일 분데스리가의 쾰른 구단과 정대세의 이적료 협상을 마무리했다"며 "정대세가 빠르면 7일 입국해 메디컬 테스트를 받은 뒤 곧바로 입단 절차를 밟을 예정"이라고 말했다.

한국 국적을 가진 아버지와 해방 전의 조선 국적을 유지한 어머니 사이에서 태어난 정대세는 일본 프로축구 가와사키 프론탈레를 거쳐 지난해 초 독일 분데스리가 쾰른으로 이적했다.

북한 대표팀의 주전 공격수로 활약하는 정대세는 소속팀의 주전 경쟁에서 밀려 좀처럼 출전 기회를 얻지 못해 새로운 둥지 찾기에 나섰다.

이런 상황에서 정대세는 지난해 11월 K리그의 수원과 울산 등 이적료와 연봉을 감당할 수 있는 기업형 구단에 이적을 희망하는 제안서를 보냈다.

협상 초기 100만 달러에 이른 이적료는 수원과 협상 과정에서 30만 달러까지 떨어졌지만 중간에 대전 시티즌이 영입전에 뛰어들면서 난항을 거듭했다.

하지만 정대세가 수원 이외의 팀으로는 가지 않겠다고 선언했고, 결국 수원이 애초 협상액보다 1억원 가량 오른 30만 유로에 쾰른과 이적료 협상을 마무리했다.
