May 13, 2013 - 20:27 By Korea Herald
Two South Korean teams will look to maintain their dominance at the premier Asian club competition this week, as they enter knockout-stage action against regional rivals.

FC Seoul and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors are the two K League Classic teams that have advanced to the round of 16 at the AFC Champions League.

Two other South Korean clubs, Suwon Bluewings and Pohang Steelers, were eliminated from the group stage last month.

The K League Classic has produced three of the past four AFC champions.

FC Seoul won Group E with 11 points, on three wins, one loss and two draws. In the round of 16, which will be played over two legs on a home-and-away basis, FC Seoul will take on Beijing Guoan of the Chinese Super League, the runner-up from Group G.

Jeonbuk was the runner-up in Group F with 10 points, thanks to two wins and four draws. Jeonbuk’s opponent in the round of 16 will be Kashiwa Reysol of Japan’s J. League, which finished first in Group H with four wins and two draws.

The FC Seoul-Beijing showdown is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Beijing Workers Stadium in the Chinese capital, while the second leg will be played at Seoul World Cup Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on May 21.

Jeonbuk and Kashiwa will play their opening leg at Jeonju World Cup Stadium, about 240 kilometers south of Seoul, at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The second match will be held at Hitachi Kashiwa Stadium in Kashiwa on May 22, also at 7 p.m. (Yonhap News)
