South Korea has hired a new assistant coach from the Netherlands for the men’s national football team, officials said on Wednesday.

The Korea Football Association said Ton du Chatinier recently signed a contract and arrived in South Korea on Wednesday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Du Chatinier, 55, will serve under the head coach Hong Myung-bo during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, joining other assistants Kim Tae-young, Park Kun-ha and Kim Bong-soo, and physical trainer Seigo Ikeda.

The former defender once worked as an assistant to Guus Hiddink, who coached South Korea to the final four at the 2002 World Cup, on the Russian club FC Anzhi Makhachkala.

In a recent interview, Hong said he expects du Chatinier to help the national team with advanced scouting on Russia, one of South Korea's opponents in Group H along with Belgium and Algeria.

When South Korea last faced Russia in a friendly match last November, the entire Russian squad was made up of players from the domestic league.
