The state-run broadcaster KBS said it will air a four-part documentary series on Tripitaka Koreana, the world’s most comprehensive and oldest intact Buddhist canon, from Saturday.

The documentary series was produced as part of celebrations of the 1,000th year of the creation of the “Chojo Daejanggyeong,” the first edition of the Tripitaka Koreana.

Titled “Dharma,” meaning the truth in Sanskrit, the documentary series will be launched on Saturday night at 8 p.m. on KBS 1TV. “Buddha’s Will,” the first episode, will explore what Buddha’s teaching was about. The other three episodes will compare the practices of three main branches of Buddhism ― Theravada, Tibetan and Zen ― each with a medical center in the U.S., the world’s largest particle physics laboratory in Europe and a Catholic convent in Austria. The second “Cure,” the third “Reincarnation” and the fourth “Where is Heaven” will be aired on Oct. 16, Oct. 22 and Oct. 23, at 8 p.m., respectively.

The background music for the documentary series was directed by Japanese producer and pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto.
