‘나쁜 기집애’로 돌아왔다. 2NE1의 리더이자 래퍼인 CL이 ‘나쁜 기집애’라는 힙합 솔로곡을 가지고 당차게 출사표를 던졌다. 지난달 28일 음원 공개 직후, 대부분의 음원 사이트 실시간 차트를 석권하며 ‘나쁜 기집애’는 팬들의 뜨거운 호응을 얻고 있다.

“베드(Bad)란 단어는 ‘나쁜’이란 의미 외에 ‘멋있다’는 의미도 함께 가지고 있다. 나는 아름다운 여성상보다 멋있는 여성상을 꿈꾼다. ‘나쁜 기집애’엔 그런 내 생각이 담겨 있다’ 라고 그녀는 말한다.

곡의 영어 제목인 ‘더 베디스트 피메일(The Baddest Female)’은 데뷔 전부터 소속사 YG 엔터테인먼트(YG)의 프로듀서 페리(Perry)가 붙여준 별명이라고 한다. “현재 나의 이미지가 완성되기 전부터 나를 대표해 온 문구”라고 덧붙였다.

다소 대중성이 약한 힙합곡을 들고 온 이유에 대해서 그녀는 간단하게 대답한다. “힙합을 좋아하기 때문에 솔로로 나선다면 힙합을 선보이고 싶었다. 내 롤모델은 로린 힐(Lauryn Hill)의 랩과 보컬이다.”

대중이 투애니원은 익숙해도 씨엘은 낯설 수 있다고 생각했기 때문에 현재 ‘나쁜 기집애’가 이렇게 많은 인기를 얻으리라고는 생각하지 못했다고 말하며 겸손함을 보였다.

이달 중으로 ‘나쁜 기집애’ 활동을 마친 뒤 다시 투애니원으로 돌아올 CL은 “언젠가는 꼭 내 이름을 걸고 의미있는 앨범을 만들고 싶다”며 자신만의 포부를 밝혔다.

2NE1's CL comes back with ‘The Baddest Female’

South Korean top music group 2NE1’s leader CL is back as “the baddest.”

Her new song “The Baddest Female” topped all the music charts as soon as it was released. In her first solo album, she attempts to be the “baddest” woman as best she can.

“The word ‘bad’ also has a meaning of ‘coolness.’ I prefer being cool than pretty. Such thoughts are the basis of this album,” CL said in an interview.

Perry, YG’s longtime producer, gave CL the nickname of “the baddest female.”

“The phrase ‘the baddest female’ has represented me since way before my apparent image was made,” she added.

Her new song, composed by Teddy and written by CL and Teddy, is a hip-hop song with a relatively slow beat. The reason she chose hip-hip is clear: “I always thought of a hip-hop album if I were ever to release a solo album. My role model is Lauryn Hill,” said CL.

“I thought many people would only be used to the name 2NE1, not CL. So I’m very overwhelmed by people’s interest and support these days,” she said. After she wraps up her solo album this month, CL will be back again with 2NE1.
