Former Major League Baseball player Luke Scott was released by his South Korean club SK Wyverns on Wednesday following a heated exchange with his manager in public.

The Wyverns said they have placed the 36-year-old veteran on the waivers a day after Scott got into a verbal spat with his manager Lee Man-soo. Their exchange took place on the field at the Wyverns' home Munhak Stadium in Incheon, hours before they were to host the Hanwha Eagles.

Scott, with 135 career homers in the majors and three consecutive 20-homer seasons to his credit, was one of the high-profile acquisitions in the Korea Baseball Organization before the start of this season. Battling assorted injuries, however, Scott had appeared in only 33 of the Wyverns' 81 games prior to Tuesday's outburst, with six homers, 17 RBI and a .267 batting average.

He had been rehabbing his foot injury and had last played on July 4, when he appeared at the ballpark on Tuesday. Scott could be heard calling Lee a "coward" and a "liar."

Scott later told reporters in the dugout that Lee and the management didn't respect his own way of rehabbing and forced him to follow different steps.

The Wyverns made clear that their decision was in direct response to Scott's action, saying they felt he had "behaved in a manner that was detrimental to the team." (Yonhap)
