세계의 패스트푸드 중 최고의 요리를 선정하는 초츠터 대회에서 한국의 후라이드 치킨이 지난 일요일 수상의 영광을 안게 되었다.

시상식에서 틀어진 한국 치킨의 수상 이유를 설명하는 영상에서 나레이터는 “한국의 치킨은 고추와 함께 튀겨 고추의 달콤함이 치킨의 속살에 부드럽게 스며들게 만들었습니다. 천국에 가까운 맛이죠” 라고 언급했다.

초츠터 대회는 ‘지구상에서 가장 맛있는’ 패스트푸드 7종류를 선정해 런던에서 수상했다. 선정 패스트푸드 종류에는 피자, 치킨, 소시지, 햄버거, 카레, 샌드위치와 타코가 있다. 

전세계 각지에 있는 미식 블로거들이 30개 도시의 5천 여가지 음식을 선정한 후 그중 144개를 추려 결선에 오르게 되었다. 이 중 7개 음식이 선정되었다.

“전문적인 미식가들이 조직적으로 모여 현지에서 가장 맛있고 신선한 재료를 찾아 경연하는 것은 이번이 처음입니다” 라고 초츠터 대회 조직위원장인 제프리 메리휴가 인터뷰를 통해 전한 바 있다. (코리아헤럴드)

Korean fried chicken wins tastiest fast food award

Korean fried chicken won an award at the Chowzter World’s Seven Tastiest Fast Feasts Awards on Sunday.

“They cook pepper and chicken together in the oil, where the sweetness of pepper softly infuses into the chicken meat. Close to food heaven, if you ask us,” a narrator said in a video clip played at the ceremony for the awards.

The awards, sponsored by Coca-Cola Company, was organized in London to nominate the world’s best food items in seven categories -- pizza, chicken, sausage, burger, curry, sandwich and taco.

A team of food bloggers picked some 5,000 contenders from more than 30 cities around the world. Among the contenders, 144 items were chosen to compete as the top seven finalists.

“It’s the first time that serious foodies have systematically attempted to find the tastiest, locally sourced and freshly prepared dishes in the world,” Chowzter founder and chief executive Jeffrey Merrihue said in an interview with U.S. media.
