오전 미국 뉴욕 맨해튼 도심에서 대형 에어컨 설비를 나르던 크레인의 케이블이 끊어지면서 10명이 부상하는 사고가 발생했다.뉴욕경찰(NYPD)에 따르면 이날 오전 10시 50분께 맨해튼 중심부의 30층 빌딩 옥상으로 컨테이너 크기만한 설비를 나르던 크레인의 케이블이 끊어졌다.이 설비는 바닥으로 떨어지는 과정에서 건물 벽을 여러 차례 때렸고 이 때문에 발생한 유리 등 건물 부스러기가 바닥으로 떨어졌다.다행히 대형 에어컨 설비는 지나가던 차의 뒤에 떨어져 인명 피해는 발생하지 않았지만, 건물 부스러기에 맞은 10명이 부상했다.빌 더블라지오 뉴욕시장은 "건설 근로자 2명은 벨뷰병원에서, 나머지는 뉴욕대(NYU) 병원에서 치료를 받고 있다"면서 "다행히 모두 심각하게 다치지는 않았다"고 말했다.그는 "매우 심각한 사고였는데도 행인이 많지 않은 시간대에 발생해 신에게 감사한다"며 가슴을 쓸어내렸다.사고 원인은 아직 알려지지 않았으며, 인근의 도로는 사고 수습을 위해 통제되고 있다.
