The South Korean Army's sniper team came out on top of all international participants, excluding the US, at the 2025 International Sniper Competition, South Korean Army officials said Wednesday.
The event, hosted by the US Army and held from April 4-10 at the US Army Sniper School at Fort Moore, Georgia, had 35 teams competing from 9 countries, including the United States, Germany, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.
Representing South Korea, the only Asian nation invited to the annual competition for the second consecutive year, were four soldiers: 1st Sgt. Park Dae-woon (spotter), Sgt. 1st Class Jang Je-wook (shooter), and Sgt. 1st Class Lee Dong-seok (coach) from the 1st Army Commando Regiment, along with interpreter 1st Sgt. Jang Pil-seong from the 9th Division.

First held in 2001, the competition is known for its intense challenges. This year, participants were required to infiltrate within 400 meters of a target without being detected, using only a map, coordinates and a single live bullet to complete the mission. Teams were also required to quickly identify and engage targets where forces were intermingled. Physical endurance and mental resilience were also evaluated.
Spotter 1st Sgt. Park said, "We trained and prepared thoroughly to compete with the world’s top-tier teams. I feel great accomplishment in showing the competencies of our military on the international stage."
