Samsung Display on Thursday announced it will mass produce the world’s first rollable OLED screen for laptops in April.

At CES 2025, taking place this week in Las Vegas, the Korean display maker said its groundbreaking display will be featured in Lenovo’s upcoming ThinkBook Plus G6 Rollable laptop, with worldwide sales set to begin June.

Lenovo unveiled the new laptop Tuesday at the world's largest tech show, boasting a flexible screen that stretches from a 14-inch, 5:4 aspect ratio to a 16.7-inch, 8:9 aspect ratio at the push of a button or a hand gesture. This vertical expansion provides about 50 percent of extra screen space, which Samsung says enhances the view for efficient multitasking.

Samsung Display highlighted that the new panel incorporated advanced technology, including its Eco² OLED, originally developed for premium smartphone panels and now applied to laptops for the first time. The technology reduces panel thickness and decreases power consumption by 30 percent, according to the firm.

“Due to the nature of the rollable display, it can apply stress to the entire screen, but based on our extensive experience in foldable production, we were able to secure durability of this rollable product,” said Kim Young-seok, Samsung Display vice president and head of IT sales. “The rollable technology will bring innovations to IT devices, especially laptops, enhancing portability and user experience.”

AG Zheng, executive director of Lenovo SMB product and solutions, shared excitement about the collaboration saying, “Thanks to Samsung Display’s exclusive OLED technology, we were able to challenge ourselves to mass-produce the world’s first rollable laptop. The ThinkBook Plus G6 Rollable will offer user experiences like never before and set the direction of future IT products.”
