Riize (SM Entertainment)
SM Entertainment's Riize and JYP Entertainment's VCHA were named "25 Artists To Watch In 2024," according to Grammy.com on Thursday. Among those listed, the two K-pop groups were the only Korean artists.
"(The group) has solidified themselves as one of K-pop’s fifth-generation leaders. Their mini-album, “Get A Guitar,” sold over one million copies in less than a week and quickly landed them at the top of Korea’s music charts," Grammy editors wrote of Riize on the official website.
Earlier, Riize began to make its presence known by being included in the year-end lists of major overseas music media. The group's debut song, "Get A Guitar," was also named as one of Billboard's "25 Best K-pop Songs of 2023."
“Riize is less than 6 months old but made an impact in 2023 with a trio of singles. Of the three, ‘Get A Guitar’ highlights the group’s strength in the ever-changing landscape of K-pop and features the boys relishing the joy of music,” explained Starr Bowenbank, a Billboard journalist said through Billboard's official website.
Moreover, Riize's songs "Get A Guitar," "Memories," and "Siren" were respectively listed on Grammy's "15 K-pop Songs That Took 2023 By Storm," NME's "The 25 best K-pop songs of 2023," and Nylon's "2023 K-pop Superlatives."
VCHA of JYP Entertainment will officially debut on Jan. 26, with a single album, “Girls of the Year.” Billboard commented that JYP Entertainment had “made history” by presenting the first American girl group trained under a K-pop system. The six members of the group are from Korea, the US and Canada.
