Addressing the need to protect endangered animals, SK Telecom on Monday released its latest campaign to promote the concept of a zoo without animals using its advanced media technologies.

Adopting “mixed reality” -- a combination of virtual reality and augmented reality -- the video campaign depicts a father of a family bringing a polar bear to life using 5G for his son. The images use realistic rendering to mimic the lifelike fluff of the animal and environmental rendering that reflects the colors and brightness of a real-life backdrop.
The latest campaign is in line with the mobile carrier’s virtual zoo service that started earlier this year. In August, the mobile carrier introduced mobile application Jump AR, through which users can see AR images of animals at designated sites in Seoul.
The latest polar bear images will be added to the app in the next year, together with images featuring sloths, the company added.
