A resident has been accused of taking down local election banners which had been covering his store sign.
The Election Commission of South Chungcheong Province said Tuesday that a resident of Cheonan has been reported to the Cheonan Branch of Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office.
The man is accused of taking down two placards at around 6:30 a.m. on May 31, that of a South Chungcheong Provincial governor candidate and a Cheonan city councilor candidate.

The Public Official Election Act stipulates that those who damage or remove “any campaign poster, placard, or other propaganda facilities without justifiable grounds” may face a prison term of up to two years or a fine of 4 million won ($3,750) at maximum.
The accused reportedly took down the banners because they were “covering his store sign and obstructing business.”
