For the 10-day-long holiday starting this Saturday, major cultural heritage sites have announced festivities ranging from free admission to special event offerings.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Monday that major royal palaces and tombs across the country will stay open during the 10-day holiday, free of admission fees.

The promotion will take place at the royal palaces of Gyeongbokgung, Deoksugung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung as well as Jongmyo Shrine, the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty and other cultural heritage sites across the country.

Jongmyo Shrine, which is usually only open for guided tour groups, will be open to the public to visit freely without having to schedule tours from Saturday to Oct. 9.

Visitors can enjoy performances and play Korean folk games at the palaces and tombs.
