South Korea’s economic doldrums have caused a decline in average household income for people in their 40s in the third quarter this year, data by Statistics Korea showed.

It is the age group’s first decline in income since Statistics Korea’s income survey began in 2003.

The data showed that householders aged 40 to 49 -- Korea’s most economically active age group -- earned an average of 5.05 million won ($4,254.41) during the period, a drop of 1,569 won ($1.30) from a year ago.
