Director Park Jung-woo’s upcoming thriller “Pandora” is going global.
Netflix, an online streaming service, has partnered with local production and distribution company Next Entertainment World to acquire international rights to the film, according to Netflix on Tuesday.
“Pandora” will be offered exclusively on the platform in nearly 200 countries starting next year. The film will be available for streaming in Korea after its release in local theaters.
Starring actors Kim Nam-gil, Kim Joo-hyeon and Kim Young-ae, “Pandora” chronicles one man’s fight to save his family and country from the aftermath of an unexpected earthquake.
Since entering the Korean market in January, Netflix has been working with local conglomerates and content providers to produce and offer original Korean drama series and movies.

Last year, the company announced its $50 million investment in “Snowpiercer” director Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming film “Okja,” which will star some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton.
“We are delighted to partner with Netflix ... to be able to present ‘Pandora’ to global audiences,” Kim Woo-taek, the CEO of Next Entertainment World, said in a statement. “Following the recent success of ‘Train to Busan’ in Asia, we hope the nuclear-themed ‘Pandora’ will win much love from audiences worldwide.”
