A magnitude-3.5 aftershock jolted Gyeongju on Wednesday, the country's meteorological agency said, little over a week after two strong earthquakes hit the southern city.
The aftershock took place at 11:53 a.m., with the epicenter located some 10 kilometers southwest of the historical city, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.
The Ministry of Public Safety and Security said no damage or casualties have been reported as of 12:30 p.m., though there were some 690 reports of people feeling tremors from across the country.
The Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., the country's nuclear power supplier, said all of its reactors that are not undergoing regular maintenance inspections are operating normally.
On Sept. 12, the city, located some 371 km southeast of Seoul, was rocked by two quakes, one of which was a magnitude 5.8, the strongest to hit the Korean Peninsula to date.
Wednesday's quake was one of the stronger aftershocks among 412 tremors detected as of 1 p.m., since the two major quakes hit the country, the KMA said.
"We are still checking if there is any damage caused by the latest tremor," an official at the weather agency said, asking people to pay attention to its reports in case of an emergency. (Yonhap)
