Mary Barra, the top executive officer of US automaker General Motors Co., will visit South Korea next week, a US business lobby in Seoul said Monday.

The top executive of General Motors Co. is scheduled to offer a special speech at a meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce next Tuesday, according to AMCHAM.

Officials at GM Korea, the South Korean unit of the US carmaker, confirmed her scheduled visit.

They, however, did not provide any other details, only saying it will be part of her "regular" business trip.

Barra took the top position at GM in 2014, at the age of 52, becoming the first woman to run one of the so-called Detroit Three US automakers.

In 2015, she was ranked No. 1 on Fortune's most powerful women list.

Her planned trip to Seoul follows a record year for the US automaker in Asia's fourth-largest economy.

In 2015, GM Korea sold 158,404 cars here, marking the largest annual sales since its launch in 2002.

The company is widely expected to see another record-breaking year as its sales have so far spiked over 20 percent on-year, selling 101,139 cars in the first seven months of 2016. (Yonhap)
