[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics’ smartphone sales in the April-June period outgunned the combined sales of Apple of the US and Huawei of China, according to market research firm Garner on Aug. 19.
Samsung sold 76.7 million smartphones, accounting for 22.3 percent of the global market, during the three months, while Apple sold 44.4 million units, or 12.9 percent, and Huawei sold 30.7 million, or 8.9 percent.

The three companies took the top three spots in the global smartphone market with their combined market share standing at 44.1 percent.
The second-quarter sales figure for Samsung increased 0.5 percent from a year earlier.
Apple saw its sales drop 1.7 percent on-year while the Chinese firm’s sales increased 0.9 percent during the same period.
The US firm’s sales drop was due to its sluggish performance mainly in the Asia-Pacific market and China, where the firm suffered a 26 percent sales drop on-year.
The research firm said the overall sales of smartphones in the global market increased 4.3 percent on-year to 344 million units.
