North Korea's main newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, carried detailed accounts of Britain's vote to leave the European Union, saying there is a possibility of a domino effect from Brexit and the disintegration of the EU system.

In an article on last week's referendum, the organ of the North's ruling Workers' Party of Korea said many countries around the world are keeping watch on the adverse effects of Brexit regarding which road Britain will choose and how EU member countries will cope with the recent development.

Saying that Britain has become the first member country to quit the EU, the WPK daily said there are divergent international opinions on the results of the British referendum.

The newspaper also gave detailed explanations of the British people's decision, the murder of British lawmaker Jo Cox, resignation by Prime Minister David Cameron and future relations between Britain and the EU, as well as the international response to Brexit.

Citing a report published by the British government, the North's newspaper said Britain's gross domestic production will shrink 3.6 percent over two years after the EU withdrawal while some 520,000 jobs will disappear and the unemployment rate will largely soar.

It also said that several other countries may follow suit, triggering a domino effect. It also forecast that the EU's goal for constructing a unified Europe based on diversity will not be realized. (Yonhap)
